"In the first place it is said that the name of Futago village which common name called "Futakotamagawa" in this area sandwiches the Tama River from ancient times, and there was on Kanagawa side and village of Tamagawamura that there was on the Tokyo side, two was combined. In addition, from the Edo era to late years, ferry boat which bound this area across the Tama River together alone comes from "handing over of Futago". As teahouse and restaurant, inns gathered in the circumference of ferry, Futakotamagawa seemed to show bustle from those days"

Would ball call that greatly changed Futakotamagawa be train service that we took what kind of role on?

"Ball call was that the biggest purpose of building gathered gravel of the Tama River and sold in the downtown area. At the time when we were excited by prosperity after Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95, construction of building and maintenance of road advanced in the downtown area and there were many gravel and sand and was required. In addition, after the Great Kanto Earthquake happened in 1923, a larger quantity of gravel was necessary for revival. Against a backdrop of this demand, Futago bridge is built over the Tama River, and ball train further extends to Mizonokuchi. Those days were the golden age of gravel industry in Futakotamagawa. From state that passenger train pulled freight train for gravel transportation and ran, people at the time seemed to call ball train by nickname called "gravel train"
